Why Most Press-Ons Fall Off Too Soon
Press-on nails have come a long way — but the secret to making them last isn't just the nails themselves. It's the prep, the application, and most importantly, the glue. With our UV Gel Glue, you can achieve a salon-quality bond that keeps your press-ons looking flawless for up to 3 weeks.
What You'll Need
- SHE DARES UV Gel Glue
- UV/LED nail lamp
- Nail file and buffer
- Cuticle pusher
- Rubbing alcohol or nail prep wipe
- Your favorite press-on nails
Step 1: Prep Your Natural Nails
This is the most important step. Skip it and your press-ons won't last — no matter how good the glue is.
- Push back your cuticles gently with a cuticle pusher.
- Lightly buff the surface of each nail to remove shine. This creates texture for the glue to grip.
- File the edges so your natural nail is smooth and even.
- Wipe each nail with rubbing alcohol or a nail prep wipe to remove all oils and dust. Let dry completely.
Pro tip: Avoid moisturizing your hands right before application — oils are the #1 enemy of nail adhesion.
Step 2: Size and Fit Your Press-Ons
Lay out all your press-ons and match each one to the correct finger before you start gluing. The press-on should cover your nail from sidewall to sidewall without touching your skin.
If needed, file the sides of the press-on for a perfect fit. A proper fit dramatically extends wear time.
Step 3: Apply UV Gel Glue
This is where SHE DARES UV Gel Glue makes all the difference. Unlike traditional nail glue that dries on contact, UV gel glue gives you time to position the press-on perfectly before curing.
- Apply a thin, even layer of UV Gel Glue to your natural nail. Avoid getting glue on your skin or cuticles.
- Apply a second thin layer to the inside of the press-on nail.
- Press the nail down firmly, starting from the cuticle and pressing toward the tip. Hold for 10–15 seconds.
- Cure under your UV/LED lamp for 60 seconds.
- Repeat for all 10 nails.
Pro tip: Less is more with gel glue. A thin, even coat bonds better than a thick glob — and it's much easier to remove later without damaging your natural nails.
Step 4: Seal the Edges
Once all nails are applied and cured, run a tiny bead of UV Gel Glue along the free edge (tip) of each press-on and cure again. This seals the most vulnerable point and prevents lifting from everyday activities like washing dishes or typing.
Step 5: Aftercare Tips to Maximize Wear
Getting to 3 weeks is also about how you treat your nails after application:
- Wear gloves when washing dishes or cleaning with harsh chemicals.
- Avoid picking or prying — if a nail lifts slightly, apply a drop of UV Gel Glue under the edge and re-cure.
- Keep nails dry for the first hour after application to let the bond fully set.
- Moisturize your cuticles (not the nail surface) daily to keep the surrounding skin healthy.
How to Remove Safely
When you're ready to remove, soak your nails in warm soapy water for 10–15 minutes to soften the bond. Gently slide the press-ons off — never force or rip them. Any residue can be gently buffed away.
